Start with the decision the report supports
A report about cash requirements answers a different question from a report about project costs. Identify the intended reader, decision and reporting period before adding another dashboard. Agree the definitions of the measures used.
Trace the numbers to their source
Review how sales, purchases, payments and adjustments enter the system. Check whether the accounts and analytic dimensions support the report. Resolve missing records and reconciliation gaps rather than hiding them behind a chart.
Make responsibility and timing explicit
Agree who supplies each input, who reviews the figures and when the report is prepared. Document the treatment of late transactions and corrections. A consistent process makes comparison between periods more meaningful.
Keep automation reviewable
Automated preparation can help with repetitive steps, but the underlying data and review responsibilities remain important. When AI is used to summarise a report, define the source information, limits and human approval of consequential actions.
